Pre-conference Postgrad Group

Our next meeting will take place on Wednesday 24th May, 15.00-17.00, room TBA. This will be the last meeting before the conference, so we’ll be using the time to allow people to practice and discuss elements of their papers. If you’re presenting at the conference and would like to get in some practice or get feedback from other members, just come along!

April Meeting

Our April meeting will take place on Wednesday 3rd May, 15.00-17.00 in Howard 5426. Emily will be talking about elements of her research.

After the usual meeting we’ll be discussing the composition of panels for the conference.

Our March meeting will take place tomorrow in Howard 5422 from 15.00-17.00. Adam will be talking about elements of his research.

Conference CFP is now live!

You may have noticed we’ve added a new category to the site for our upcoming conference, organised in association with the Students Union. Click here to go to the CFP.

If you’ve never given a conference paper before, this is an ideal opportunity to do so right here in Sheffield, with an audience of other postgrads and early career researchers, and even if you have, it’s still a great chance to share and get feedback on your work, and to meet people from outside your usual networks.

Hopefully we can get as many Hallam folk involved as possible!

PubhD in Sheffield starts November 2nd

Just a little notice of an event that may be of interest to people in the group:

Could you explain your research in exchange for a drink?

Do you want to try out some public engagement down the pub?

Do you want to hear about the latest research taking place right on your door step?!

The first event takes place on Wednesday November 2nd 7pm-10pm, so it fits in perfectly just after our next group meeting! It’s being held at Harrisons 1854 15/29 Regent Terrace, in the town centre.

So how does it work?

PubhD has a really simple, relaxed format…

In exchange for a pint (or two), three researchers will be given a white board, marker pen and 10 minutes to explain their research, followed by 20 minutes of friendly Q&A.

For the speakers PubhD is a great way to test your public speaking and public engagement skills.

For the audience it is a great opportunity to learn something new, without needing any prior knowledge of the topic!
